Job Purpose:

To oversee set-up and clean-up food preparation for all banquet functions. Supervise banquet servers, and bartenders in the proper service of functions. Responsible for maintaining standards of cleanliness and order throughout banquet spaces while on duty.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Reviews event order, makes buffet signs, checks scheduled team members and their position for banquet event, and prepares opening and closing sheets along with the wait staff sign in & out sheet.

  • Supervise Food and Beverage service to ensure consistency throughout the banquet.

  • Check server appearance to ensure uniform standards are met.

  • Pre-shift should consist of: group name, number of people, information on group, go over basic service etiquette, review event menu, and server should introduce themselves to guests.

  • Verbally communicate, in a calm, positive demeanor, during the course of the function with the kitchen, service, beverage, convention services, and engineering staffs, as well as the guest host to ensure timely execution of events, quality service, and adherence to all applicable federal, state, local safety and health regulations and corporate standards.

  • Inspects room for engineering, houseperson, housekeeping or stewards to take action for event. Inspects table linen for tears or stains, as well as silver ware and water and wine glasses.

  • Supervise clean-up of function room and proper breakdown and storage of equipment. Check kitchen to ensure that all is clean and organized after event.

  • Check staff attendance according to schedules, adjust and reassign server stations, as necessary, in order to provide quality service during functions.

  • Completes following paper work: inventory & close out bar, completes banquet checks, have guest sign, completes captains report and e-mail to proper departments.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of the banquets operations including food, beverages, supervisory aspects, service techniques, and guest interaction.

  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, with guests and employees, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger, to collect accurate information, and to resolve problems.

  • Must possess basic math skills sufficient to inventory food and beverage and complete banquet checks.

  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with stressful situations during busy periods.

  • Ability to stand, walk and continuously perform essential job functions on a variety of shifts, for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to listen, and communicate effectively.

  • Read, write, and speak English fluently. Ability to communicate in Spanish helpful.

  • Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations.

  • Ability to push/pull cart/ table weighing up to 150 lbs.; grasp, lift to waist and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • Strong leadership skills.

  • Ability to effectively manage time.

Qualifications Standards

Education:

High school graduate or equivalent required.

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years experience preferred.

License/Certificates:

Food Handlers Certification required.

TABC required.

CPR certification preferred.
