Role with the Company:

The Sales Audit Lead Accountant oversees the accounting for retail sales transactions from transaction to cash received. Performs review of Retail Sale Audit (ReSA) results and guides the team to resolve situations that may cause a store to be on hold. Leads company's matching of cash and credit card deposits to store closing totals and assists the team in coordinating with internal and external stakeholders towards resolution of any discrepancies. The Sales Audit Lead Accountant acts as subject matter expert in providing accounting guidance and process impact to internal and external stakeholders. Reviews and posts journal entries and reviews/approves reconciliations prepared be direct reports.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare or supervise the preparation of all journal entries related to store sales, categorization of sales, tender, paid ins/outs and chargebacks and recoveries
  • Liaison with Loss Prevention Supervisor and Regional/District Managers on results of compliance audit procedures to ensure compliance with company policy and procedures regarding tender handling and reporting of sales
  • Maintain the integrity of sales and tender data collection and cash handling
  • Identify and communicate process weaknesses and make recommendations to automate functions and limit reporting/accounting risks around vendor contracts
  • Ensure internal controls are designed, implemented and operating effectively, to include training and oversight of controls performed by direct reports
  • Perform special projects and ad-hoc analysis for management. Analyze and respond to more complex inquires involving higher level of understanding for accounting and documentation, sometimes critical and time sensitive
  • Support in the performance of internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with applicable standards, regulations, and guidance
  • Assist in the development, implementation, compliance, and coordination of policies and programs consistent with company philosophy and objectives
  • Directly manage and provide guidance for Staff and/or Senior level Accountants to include interviewing, training, and performance evaluations
  • Oversee the work of contract or contingent workers, to include an international workforce

Background Profile:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required; Master's degree and CPA preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a retail environment
  • Experience in public accounting for large clients or large publicly traded company with high volume environment
  • Understanding of internal controls in public company
  • Experience managing small accounting teams preferred
  • Strong understanding of GAAP accounting, experience with balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Strong communication skills for regular interaction with other departments and senior management
  • Pivotal contributor to improvements involving systems, accounting and third parties
  • Self-starter who can hit the ground running with proven ability to follow through on numerous projects simultaneously in fast-paced environment (ME close 2 days)
  • Advanced Excel skills comfortable analyzing large amounts of data using pivot tables and vlookups
  • Experience with PeopleSoft or Oracle Cloud and system implementation experience preferred
