As a Payroll Tax Specialist, this position is responsible for filing local, state, and federal payroll tax returns including quarterly and annual reconciliation of payroll paid and taxes withheld. Responds to questions and special requests from regulatory agencies regarding taxes and payroll withholding procedures. Research tax law changes if necessary.

As a Garnishment Specialist, this position is responsible for collecting, reviewing and analyzing payroll information to effectively administer involuntary deductions from pay, such as child support, state and federal tax levies, creditor garnishments, etc.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Payroll Tax
    • Correspond with tax agencies in writing and verbally as necessary
    • Ensure team member taxes were setup correctly through daily, monthly, and quarterly tax audits
    • Maintain payroll tax files and records
    • Process timely and accurate payroll tax payments and filings with appropriate federal, state and local agencies
    • Reconcile payroll taxes, wages, monthly, quarterly, annual, and third party pay
    • Reconcile W2s to validate wage and tax information
    • Record third party payments of relocation, sick pay, and stock options
    • Register with State and Local agencies for new tax accounts and determine ongoing state and local tax requirements
    • Research and resolve discrepancies identified by Federal, State, and Local tax agencies
    • Respond to team member inquires and questions ad necessary
    • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Garnishment
    • Process court ordered wage garnishments, including child support, student loans, wage assignments, bankruptcy orders, state and federal tax levies
    • Collects and maintains electronic files for all withholding orders
    • Enters wage garnishment orders in our payroll system accurately and in a timely manner
    • Sets up garnishment vendors appropriately
    • Ensures payroll deduction reports are run timely and are accurate and in compliance with laws
    • Ensures all garnishment payments are accurate and in compliance with withholding orders and the laws
    • Research and respond to inquiries from employees, courts, state and federal agencies and others regarding garnishment orders
    • Assist as needed to ensure accurate and timely reconciliation of garnishment accounts and establishes Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) of payments to comply with jurisdiction rules
    • Respond to team member inquires and questions ad necessary
    • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of payroll tax experience
  • Knowledge of multi-state and local taxation, and multi-state garnishments 
  • MS Office knowledge
  • Ability to problem solve
  • If you need to enter a work site for any reason, you will be required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener. When in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are required to wear a mask in common areas. In addition, employees must comply with any state and local masking orders

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $53,300 to $95,100.
