The hospitals provide state-of-the-art treatment that is recovery-oriented and science-based. Whether in a direct-care or support role, your contribution will make a difference in the life of a Texan. Security Officer II performs routine (journey-level) security enforcement work. Work involves patrolling grounds; receiving visitors; inspecting and safeguarding buildings, properties, and equipment; directing traffic; and issuing tickets for parking violations. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. This position is required to drive a state owned vehicle.Essential Job Functions1. Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. 2. Patrols state buildings and grounds; watches for unauthorized persons, fires, and unusual occurrences; and reports emergencies upon discovery. 3. Identifies and reports persons/suspects in cases of unauthorized entry into state buildings and work areas, malicious mischief, or other violations. 4. Directs the flow of traffic and parking of vehicles. 5. Ensures that lights are on or off as required and that doors and windows are locked. 6. Issues tickets for parking violations. 7. Responds to alarms and investigates disturbances. 8. Monitors and authorizes entrance and departures of employees, visitors, and other persons to maintain security of premises. 9. May confront and/or apprehend persons/suspects in cases of unauthorized entry into state buildings and work areas, malicious mischief, or other violations. 10. Performs related work as assigned. 11. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agencyand#146;s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Registrations, Licensure Requirements or CertificationsMust possess valid Texas driverand#146;s license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date. Applicants with an out-of-state driverand#146;s license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy. Knowledge Skills Abilities1. Knowledge of traffic and parking regulations and of emergency reporting procedures. 2. Skill in monitoring and assessing situations and determining appropriate response. 3. Skill in the use of a computer and basic user knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. 4. Ability to enforce security rules and regulations, to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations, and to communicate effectively. Initial Screening Criteria1.
