Reporting to the SVP & C.O.O., the Senior Director, Lean Manufacturing Systems will partner with operations leaders to implement and execute on the key operational goals and deliverables of the company Strategy. The individual will be the key Lean Manufacturing functional leader for the organization. S/he will bring experience balancing strategy and execution, ability to get “hands-on” with the business while understanding the processes needed to deliver results. Experience having successfully implemented and sustained lean management is required. The new leader must be comfortable working across the multi-site global structure, be adept at identifying operational improvement opportunities and working with others to generate and implement solutions. S/he will not only possess solid knowledge and experience in leading lean programs in manufacturing operations, but will have proven results in driving a lean culture across all areas of an organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Actively champion a lean culture through team member development, problem solving and engagement.
Develops global lean/continuous improvement strategy which aligns to the business strategy while taking into account present operational realities.
Provide vision and leadership for effective implementation of lean processes, initiatives, and standards.
Develop “lean” thinking principles that can be deployed throughout the company. This includes setting benchmark standards that will transform the culture.
Develop tools that place these principles into action, such as: 5S, Visual Management (FMDS), Value Stream Maps, OEE, Standardized Work, Kaizen, etc.
Establish manufacturing, sourcing, procurement, logistics, planning, and engineering value stream maps and current state assessments of functional performance
Partner and build consensus with operational leaders to identify areas of transformational and incremental improvement in the areas of safety, quality, service, and cost.
Provide oversight, mentoring, and training to business unit continuous improvement resources, with focus on waste elimination and increased predictability or operations.
Serves as the “go-to” person to assist business units in the assessment of major improvement initiatives. Identify, prioritize and execute continuous improvement initiatives that provide the highest impact on operational excellence and continuous improvement metrics.
Coordinate potential opportunities with business unit leaders to include strategic plan and annual operating plan development.
Monitor, investigate, and incorporate new techniques, frameworks, and technological innovations in order to continuously improve the continuous improvement program.
Lead efforts to share and educate business leaders on industry and lean best practices.
Identify and develop in conjunction with the other business leaders, key members of their organization who can be developed into Lean Champions. Also, coach and mentor new hires who join the organization in a lean capacity.
Partner with Lean Training Manager to ensure curriculum is designed and implemented to maximize problem solving capability across the business.
Develop, gain consensus, measure and communicate results of continuous improvement metrics to senior leadership
Undertakes regular and frequent financial reporting to continuously ensure results are meeting or exceeding commitments on all initiatives/projects. Establish internal processes to be able to present the performance and financial analysis to the senior management team on a regular basis.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required; preference for degrees (in Engineering or Business preferred)
The ideal candidate will bring 10+ years of progressive leadership in building and driving continuous improvement programs, preferably with a background in engineering or manufacturing operations.
Demonstrated success implementing lean across full organization.
Demonstrated ability to develop all levels of members across an organization.
Program development, deployment and management experience: ability to plan strategically and execute to plan aligned to the goals of the business.
Strong project management skills and process orientation.
Ability to build pipeline of prioritized projects with associated business cases-strong understanding of metrics, financial P&L’s and cash management
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others and build partnerships across diverse platforms through influencing and project leadership vs direct control.
Ability to engage diplomatically with excellent verbal and written communications.
Effective critical thinking, problem solving and change management skills. Ability to conduct complex analytics and synthesize insights into actionable initiatives.
Knowledge of end to end supply chain activities and the interdependencies between elements.
Must be willing to travel up to 50% as necessary to support the business
