Job Description Summary

As a world leader in metal fabricated products for the precast and tilt up wall manufacturing processes we are looking to develop a world class Tool and Die Shop within our manufacturing facility.  This position will be responsible for troubleshooting and root cause analysis of manufacturing issues pertaining to the onsite stamping dies, as well as continuous improvement methods of driving improvements in our die designs.  The Tool and Die Engineer will lead and coordinate our internal repair and fabrication shop located on site which includes CNC, EDM and Milling equipment and more.  This position will report directly to the Plant Manager and will be a key part of the leadership team.

Essential Duties

  • Troubleshoot various metal stamping manufacturing issues to drive solutions and corrective actions through the tool and die department
  • Coordinate with shop floor technicians and production teams to resolve production issues
  • Use strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot design opportunities
  • Design stamping dies, gages, machining and production fixtures for all fabricating departments
  • Manage the tool build process per design for in-house and outside vendor tool shops
  • Revise tooling designs to incorporate engineering and/or process changes
  • Manages all engineering changes through tool shops
  • Overall management of multi-projects from design concept through manufacturing floor production
  • Create tool designs from engineering data, 3D models, and drawings
  • Create properly dimensioned 2-D Prints for tooling teams
  • Create 3-D Design Models that meet documented requirements
  • Complete cost estimating: material usage and cost, manufacturing process routings, tooling requirements and cost, delivery and time line scheduling
  • Total team concept involvement with all manufacturing departments for continuing process improvement, product and quality improvements, troubleshooting, equipment justification and providing engineering support throughout all departments
  • Document project plans for tooling teams with required steps
  • Participate in testing of tools and dies
  • Ensures production tool shop provides a realistic timeline
  • Gathers and analyze information to support weekly updates of tool progress from production tool shop for each program
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and organized fashion that follows all required safety policies and regulations

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in engineering or related sub-field; preferably Mechanical Engineering or journeyman card with a technical associates degree 
  • At least 7 years of experience in tool and die design, manufacturing, and testing
  • Proficient in metal stamping tooling design and manufacturing processes
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook/Mail Exchange
  • Experienced in drafting and dimension designs
  • Profecient in 3D modeling software
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Experience in making technical decisions on tooling and gaging requirements which are frequently complex and have no existing precedents
  • Possess fundamental knowledge/experience with a variety of manufacturing processes
  • Must be available to work all shifts and overtime to meet production demands
