Summary Description of This Positions Work and Contributions to The Chambers Success:

The Vice President of Finance is responsible for directing, coordinating, forecasting and controlling the financial functions of The Chamber.  The Vice President of Finance handles the presentation of financial statements at monthly Operating Council meetings.  The preparation of remarks and financials for presentation at Executive Committee and Board meetings is also the Vice President of Finances duty.  Vice President of Finance coordinates with Chamber leadership and develops and presents annual budget to volunteer leadership and throughout the year forecasts financial performance and year-end position.

Essential Duties:

  • Conduct and/or supervise all accounting functions of The Chamber
  • Communicate to the Executive Vice President any issues that may be outside normal Finance operations
  • Supervise payroll and Human Resources timekeeping functions with PEO
  • Calculate monthly Membership Revenue and Deferred Revenue
  • Prepare adjusting journal entries for accurate reporting of financial information
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and related documents
  • Reconcile monthly bank statements
  • Coordinate annual financial audit with external auditors
  • Coordinate preparation and filing of IRS Form 990 with external CPAs
  • Prepare Annual Budget for review and possible revisions
  • Oversight of employee benefit programs
  • Provide monthly departmental budget reports to principal staff
  • Coordinate annual renewal of Chamber insurance policies with insurance broker
  • Establish, implement, and consistently meet scheduled timelines and deadlines
  • Meet and exceed goals outlined in The Chambers Business Plan
  • Attend all major Chamber events

Decision Responsibilities:

  • Determine the Chambers financial health by monitoring accounting activity
  • Establish and implement procedures and policies, including documented data mapping, workflow, controls and checklists for daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual accounting functions
  • Distinguish financial trends and budget variances that require action by the President
  • Set deadlines for submission of timecards and other payroll records
  • Work with Principal staff to determine Chamber annual budget
  • Forecast financial performance at year end throughout the year.

Education Requirements:

Minimum:

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting

Preferred:

  • Masters Degree in Accounting
  • CPA

Previous Experience Requirements:

  • Three to five years related experience at the chief accounting officer level for a comparable entity.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks

Skills & Abilities (including High Performance Team):

  • Extensive knowledge of the unique financial operations required to support a non-profit organization
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Ability to accurately utilize the Chambers custom membership database
  • Skills in effective oral and written communication
  • Skills in managing interpersonal relationship and teamwork
  • Skills in planning and organizing
  • Skills in time management to start and finish on time

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have flexibility for attending early morning and late-night meetings
  • Must have reliable transportation
