Summary

Responsible for maximizing value delivery and minimizing risk to MPC/MPLX across a portfolio of goods and services. Responsible portfolio of categories includes IT, Fleet, Freight and Travel/Corporate Cards. Total spend covered within the team ranges from $1–$1.5B. Responsible for managing a team of Category Management professionals to identify, evaluate, develop, implement, and manage category strategies across multiple Business Units. Lead and/or facilitate cross-functional teams that analyze spend data, market intelligence and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) modeling to identify and leverage key opportunities that deliver value, optimize supply base, and mitigate risk to the business. Direct reporting and performance management responsibility for 5–9 Category Management professionals, including developing and coaching to enhance capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate effective leadership (including safety leadership), including but not limited to set clear expectations; conduct frequent and meaningful discussions with employees regarding their performance and career; provide coaching (for problem solving and enhancement) and recognition on a regular basis; provide a clear vision of team direction and how each employee contributes to that vision; promote continual learning and employee development; support changes in the organization.
  • Provide direct oversight to the development and execution of category strategies to Category Management professionals, which cover market intelligence, value proposition development, commercial negotiation, risk management, Supplier selection and contract execution.
  • Understand site operational and transactional Supply Chain activities to ensure alignment with category strategies.
  • Seek and identify continuous improvement opportunities including but not limited to value delivery (cost savings, cost avoidance, revenue enhancement) and risk reduction.
  • Oversee Category Management deliverables and collaborate with Stakeholders as required. 
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships to ensure service, commercial terms compliance and optimal leverage.
  • Develop and manage internal and external partnerships to ensure alignment in business objectives and category strategies.
  • Facilitate issue resolution related to strategic Supplier performance and/or other matters that require Category Management support as needed.
  • Drive, support and promote the use of appropriate Supply Chain tools, templates and systems.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum undergraduate degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Marketing, Engineering, Business, Science or similar discipline required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of Supply Chain, Commercial, Contract Development or Contract Management experience required. Leadership and Refining and/or Midstream (gas gathering & processing, crude gathering, pipelines or terminals) experience preferred. IT, Fleet, Freight and/or Travel/Corporate Cards experience preferred. Data analytics experience preferred.
