This role is responsible for effective delivery of training of HEDIS/STAR programs across the organization.  The Star Quality Education Specialist keeps abreast of various training delivery techniques, business processes, products, and systems. This role assists in the designing, managing, implementing, and evaluating of training of Star Quality programs to prepare highly competent staff for meaningful contributions in the workplace.  This position will work with Quality training staff on new employee onboarding, clinical orientation/training, staff competencies, auditing, and new training initiatives.  This position facilitates training for all new quality department members.  The WellMed Star Quality Education Specialist is also responsible for functions in areas such as course and materials development, updating current training materials, technical writing, and review, accuracy, and approval of training materials for the Star Quality Education Program, development of competencies and program evaluation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements organizational training plans to engage and motivate staff in improving Star scores
  • Reviews the work of others, including editing and auditing for efficacy of training
  • Discovers, develops, and administers innovative training approaches
  • Functions as a Subject Matter Expert for educating adults 
  • Develop and implement organizational training plans to engage and motivate staff in improving Star scores
  • Provide analytical interpretation of Stars/HEDIS/CMS/PQA data reports
  • Functions as Subject Matter Expert for the enterprise regarding quality measure specifications, submission of supplemental data, clinic/provider documentation and associated applications
  • Develops training for clinical quality computer applications and measures used throughout the enterprise
  • Maintains ongoing communication with other Quality Departments, Providers/Clinics with updates and new materials
  • Provides editorial oversite on all quality materials
  • Introduces new materials and obtains and incorporates user feedback
  • Coordinates ongoing updates/enhancements to training materials
  • Manages the Train-the-Trainer Quality Education program
  • Serves as a leader and mentor for other staff, including onboarding new leadership staff and creating programs to support new leaders
  • Develops solution-based, user-friendly initiatives to support provider clinical practice success
  • Skills training program
  • Adapts departmental plans and priorities to address business and operational challenges
  • Influences or provides input to forecasting and planning activities
  • Participates in and contributes to the overall clinical quality improvement initiatives providing leadership as needed
  • Assess learning needs for all quality departments and prepare training action plans to include their needs
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Pharmacist, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (8+ years of comparable work experience beyond the required years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree)
  • 5+ years associated business experience with health plans and/or quality improvement
  • 3+ years of HEDIS / Stars experience or equivalent 
  • 2+ years developing and managing clinical training
  • Professional experience influencing changes in behavior through education
  • Knowledge base of clinical standards of care, preventative health, and Star measures
  • Familiarity with online meeting platforms
  • Proven facilitation skills
  • Microsoft Office specialist with exceptional attention to detail
  • Occasionally travel as determined by the business
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential requirement of this role. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination prior to employment to ensure compliance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • 3+ years of HEDIS / Stars experience or equivalent 
  • Sound knowledge of the Medicare market and products
  • Demonstrated creativity in developing materials used for education
  • Evaluating educational programs
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, including professional document and presentation development and editing

Physical & Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to use fine motor skills to operate office equipment and/or machinery
  • Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing
  • Ability to use logical reasoning for simple and complex problem solving
