The Marketing Director is responsible for partnering with the OptumServe federal government business leadership and growth office to conceptualize and implement an integrated marketing engagement strategy that will enhance brand awareness, increase market engagement with federal health buyers and decision makers, generate marketing qualified leads and nurture the pipeline to drive client acquisition, retention and growth.

Responsibilities include brand management and integrated marketing campaign development for OptumServe sub-brand within the military health and Veteran care business-to-government campaigns. Specific components of the job include development of thought leadership and product marketing content to fuel engagement with target audiences, executing demand generation programs, sales enablement, strategic planning and oversight of industry events and sponsorships, and creation of key messages and development of print and digital content that will enhance and protect the Optum brand while engaging category targets.

Reports to the Vice President of OptumServe Marketing and helps to identify, evaluate, and shape growth opportunities while taking the lead on messaging and thought leadership opportunities aligned with strategic priorities.

Primary Responsibilities:
B2Government marketing campaign leadership for Department of Defense and Veteran Affairs audiences. Proactively develop a marketing engagement plan and mix as a contribution to the overall OptumServe marketing engagement strategy that develops new opportunities while building client loyalty and brand equity among target federal agencies and customers; ultimately achieving marketing and financial objectives. Work with business unit, product marketing, market directorate and sales leaders to shape campaign themes for a rolling 18-month timeframe.

B2Government marketing campaign execution for Department of Defense and Veteran Affairs audiences. Develop and lead the execution of integrated marketing programs to target audiences in alignment with brand, market, and solution categories. This includes embedding individual products and services into respective campaigns to support and strengthen solution themes. A contributing factor to this success is providing direction and overseeing the project management of campaign execution across a cross-functional shared services operational marketing team.

Account Based Marketing: Develop and lead the execution of integrated ABM programs to select strategic federal agencies. Success of this strategy is understanding the growth pipeline, timing of contract renewals and RFP milestones, as well as participating in growth office pipeline and deal review meetings.

Budget management. Develop and manage the appropriate level of resource investment to meet campaign objectives, goals, and budget. Accountable for driving to target outcomes within identified budget.

Marketing measurement. Advance the Product Marketing analytical agenda by working to deliver financial metrics for all marketing initiatives. Work with business partners to understand product-level economics and input marketing expenses into Workfront so that Return on Marketing Investment can be calculated. Question whether certain marketing initiatives should be pursued if financial metrics cannot be delivered. Commit to proving the quantitative impact of marketing dollars and resources. Apply learnings to ongoing marketing strategy development and execution.

Business acumen. Demonstrate a deep knowledge of the Business Unit(s) and product(s) that you are responsible for marketing. Understand the Business Unit Long-Range Plan, growth drivers, and product-level P&Ls. Identify the growth drivers and P&L levers that marketing can affect. Develop and execute marketing strategies grounded in Business Unit and product knowledge. Maintain a deep understanding of product portfolio, value-proposition, and business unit readiness for market execution.

Marketing content and asset development. Create and maintain marketing asset framework and architecture and lead the development and management of content including sales collateral, presentations, videos, podcasts, website and campaign landing pages, and demos.

Federal health care market understanding. Enable sales by providing insight into buyer and influencer motivation and behaviors, identifying who within the federal market is actively engaged, sharing overall signs of buying activity, leading the development of sales assets, and ensuring stakeholders are competent in using those assets.

Sales enablement and support. Develop and contribute key messages and assist in the development of key customer pitches, upfront meetings, and strategy sessions. Represent OptumServe professionally to clients, prospects, and partners OptumServe business at scheduled industry and Optum-sponsored events and conferences.

Channel development. Drive interactive strategies and ensure properties are up to date (web, print, electronic) with current and new content that advances brand identity and broadens awareness of category programs and priorities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of work experience
  • 9+ years of related marketing experience
  • 5+ years of experience in B2B marketing within the healthcare or the federal government industry
  • Experience working with digital marketing technologies, tools, and methodologies to reach consumer, e.g., email nurture campaigns, website, and social media marketing
  • Experience managing external marketing and media buy agencies
  • Cross-functional team leadership experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft office suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated success planning and executing omni-channel marketing campaigns in a complicated, matrixed organization
  • Ability to travel 10 to 15% travel required representing OptumServe at industry conferences, trade show exhibits and/or Optum-sponsored events where customers are served, as well as managing video and photography production shoots

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $94,500 to $171,700.
