Job Summary:

Serves as an advanced practice nurse providing the primary level of care in collaboration with physicians and other members of the health care team to a specific patient population in the outpatient and/or inpatient setting.

Job Duties:

  • Provides specialty medical care in a clinical setting under the supervision of licensed physicians working through physician approved protocols.

  • Secures and evaluates the medical health and developmental history of the patient and provides health maintenance and anticipatory guidance.

  • Evaluates patients in a clinic.

  • Performs basic physical assessment using observation, inspection, auscultation, palpation, and percussion.

  • Distinguishes between normal and abnormal findings obtained by history, physical screening, behavioral assessments, and in collaboration with the designated physician, implements an appropriate management plan.

  • Executes physician's orders such as treatments, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as prescribed in accordance with legal, ethical, and institutional standards.

  • Assures quality assurance standards are met by following all guidelines of physicians, and clinics.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


    A Master's of nursing is required; a Doctorate of nursing practice is preferred.



    Additional Licenses and Certifications:

    State licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and national certification to practice as a nurse practitioner from agency approved by the Texas Board of Nursing is required.
