The Clinical Program Manager is responsible for planning and implementing program innovation initiatives selected for participation by WellMed including pilot projects, research projects, community partnerships and publication endeavors related to the populations we serve. The Manager will develop project deliverables, budgets and timelines related to program activities and provide clinical guidance for assigned projects/studies. The Manager provides supervision of nursing and support staff and manages departmental workflow and operations. The Manager coordinates staff training and program activities with operational staff to ensure their success and to meet program needs and compliance with program requirements. The Manager collaborates with stakeholders related to program initiatives such as investigators, consultant and senior leadership. The Manager evaluates program success through appropriate evaluation methods including, but not limited to, patient/provider focus groups, customer service/provider surveys for customer experience feedback and data analysis.

Primary Responsibilities:  

  • Plans and implements program innovation initiatives selected for participation by WellMed including pilot projects, research projects, community partnerships and publication endeavors related to the populations we serve
    • Develops project deliverables, budgets and timelines related to program activities, as needed
    • Provides clinical guidance, reviews clinical protocols, and collects clinical data for assigned projects/studies
    • Develops and implements policies and procedures related to assigned programs and projects
  • Fosters open communication by interacting directly with investigators, consultants, program management, operational management and senior leadership and acts as a resource to all internal and external customers to ensure smooth program operations
  • Plans and supervises activities of assigned nurses and support staff and promotes personal growth and development for team members
    • Provides constructive information to minimize problems and improve project outcomes
    • Seeks ways to improve job efficiency and makes appropriate suggestions following the chain of command
    • Provides coaching for performance success
  • In collaboration with operational partners, coordinates staff training and program activities to ensure their success and to meet program needs and compliance with program requirements
  • Oversees and actively participates in activities to evaluate program success and achievement of program outcomes 
    • Utilizes appropriate evaluation methods including, but not limited to, data collection, data analysis, conducting patient/provider focus groups, customer service/provider surveys for customer experience feedback
    • Monitors processes to ensure projects/programs are successful, including maintaining continuous quality improvement activities to ensure outcomes achieve targeted performance goals
  • Interviews, hires, counsels and retains quality nursing staff to meet the needs of the program or project. Evaluates employee performance, recommends merit increases and consistently executes disciplinary actions
  • Ensures the timely preparation of reports, budgets, and records for dissemination to stakeholders
  • Attends required meetings, contributes and participates in committees as requested
  • Participates and assists in professional development training activities and education programs to keep staff abreast of health care trends and practices
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or related field required (8 additional years of experience beyond the required years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree)
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state 
  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare to include experience in a managed care setting, hospital setting and/or physician practice setting 
  • 3+ years of management experience in a healthcare environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications
  • Occasionally requires exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids
  • Out-of-town travel required as deemed necessary by business need
  • Solid data mining, analytical and reporting skills required. Must be able to review and interpret data to make recommendations to senior-management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Solid program management, preferably within managed care and/or disease management
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential requirement of this role. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination prior to employment to ensure compliance

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds

  • Ability to use fine motor skills to operate office equipment and/or machinery
  • Ability to properly drive and operate a company vehicle
  • Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing
  • Ability to use logical reasoning for simple and complex problem solving
