As part of the Experience Design team, User Experience represents the voice of the consumer in creating and optimizing digital consumer experiences across UHC’s suite of digital products with consideration for the broader omnichannel experience. We focus on defining and solving cross-product consumer experience problems and designing our core capabilities that enable digital transformation across the member ecosystem.

The Product Designer creates detailed visual and interaction design while considering all aspects of the user experience such as information architecture, heuristic analysis and UX research for the UHC’s consumer-facing digital experiences and for our customers. In this role you will deliver against a large portfolio of initiatives, ensuring they meet business and experience objectives, are useful, easy to use and enjoyable to Optum consumers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design of new and existing digital experiences for the Optum/UHC consumer from ideation to prototype, including design frameworks, conceptual design, wireframes, interaction design, visual design, design specifications and research
  • Work closely with UX writers and Product Owners in a cross-functional team to develop great user experiences for web and mobile app channels
  • Partner to facilitate research, usability testing, and data to address consumer needs and meet key business objectives
  • Distill broad experience vision and principles into design opportunities and strategies to solve
  • Translates abstract concepts and problems into simple, elegant, and innovative designs expressed in sketches, diagrams, and rapid prototypes for responsive, mobile, and conversational channels
  • Work collaboratively with the experience design team to understand key user needs and business goals, ideate new concepts that meet the needs of both users and the business while stretching our creativity
  • Ability to seek, analyze, apply and advocate based on consumer insights (user data, analytics and requirements, etc.) to inform and shape digital consumer experiences through the entire suite of products both for Optum as well as UHC
  • Develop and provide successful strategic and tactical design recommendations based on technical feasibility, usability findings and design best practices
  • Work collaboratively with development and accessibility teams to understand constraints and identify opportunities to modernize our product design for consumers
  • Willingness to constructively challenge current thinking across the enterprise, pushing boundaries and driving change that will deliver exceptional user-centric experiences

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in digital consumer UX or product design field
  • 3+ years of professional hands-on experience working with design tools to create comps and prototypes (i.e. Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Sketch, InVision, among others)
  • 3+ years of experience practicing design thinking, interaction design, information architecture, and visual design
  • 2+ years of experience interacting cross-functionally and with varying levels of organizational leadership
  • Exceptional design talents and a portfolio that evidences stylistic breadth that demonstrates sensitivity to diverse subject matter and cross-channel expertise in creating user-centric digital experiences for web and mobile
  • Understanding of basic front-end technologies (HTML/CSS/Jquery/React), and how design comps translate to code
  • Portfolio link on the top of resume

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human computer interaction (HCI), interaction design, graphic design; or relevant certificate
  • A keen eye for detail, while knowing how to rapidly solve problems. Using everything from a basic sketch to high fidelity prototypes
  • A data-driven mindset: Familiarity and experience with hypothesis-driven design as well as qualitative and quantitative testing
  • Ability to create design solutions based on specific product requirements, and an interest in shaping those requirements
  • Understanding of Human Interface Guidelines, Material Design, and app design best practices
  • Familiarity with accessible design and best practices
  • Familiarity with how adjacent disciplines (strategy, product, research, tech, etc.) relate to design
  • An understanding of current native app & web technology capabilities and limitations (HTML/CSS/Jquery/React)
  • Knowledge of design research methods, and how user insights and behaviors can inform design decisions and strategies
  • You know how to work with an existing design system, and can clearly articulate when to break out and make new extensible patterns
  • Experience presenting design work to others, strong articulation and speaking skills 
  • A holistic approach to problem-solving; you’re a visual thinker and rapid synthesizer of information

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $79,700 to $142,600. The salary range for Connecticut/Nevada residents is $87,900 to $156,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
